When your pet is sick or injured, waiting days for an appointment is not an option. Our team of veterinarians and technicians is experienced in assessing and treating pets facing illness and injury, from conditions that need attention today to situations that require immediate intervention.
If you are unsure whether what you are seeing warrants a visit, call us. We would rather help you think it through than have you wait at home wondering. Our team is here to answer questions, offer guidance, and get your pet the care they need.
How same–day urgent care works
We offer same-day urgent care through a daily waiting list that keeps things organized and moving efficiently for every patient we see.

Step 1: Call us at (509) 581-0647
Let us know what is going on with your pet. Our team will add you to today's waiting list and give you a sense of what to expect.

Step 2: We add you to the waiting list
The waiting list resets every day at 8am. Calling early gives you the best chance of being seen the same day.

Step 3: We call or text when it is your turn
When your spot comes up, we will reach out. Respond within 10 minutes to hold your place.

Step 4: Arrive within 30 minutes
Once confirmed, plan to arrive within 30 minutes so we can get your pet seen promptly.
Urgent conditions we see
Some health concerns are uncomfortable for your pet and stressful for you, but they are not immediately life-threatening. These cases should still be evaluated the same day to prevent progression or complications.
These are conditions that need attention today but are not immediately life-threatening:
- Minor Injuries: Small wounds needing cleaning or sutures, sprains, mild limping
- Gastrointestinal: Mild vomiting or diarrhea, loss of appetite
- Skin and Allergies: Mild allergic reactions, ear or eye irritations, skin infections, abscesses
- Urinary: Frequent urination or suspected UTI in stable patients
- Other: Coughing, sneezing, mild dehydration, behavioral changes, pain management
Emergencies and critical cases
If your pet is experiencing any of the conditions below, call us or come in right away. Our team will evaluate your pet as quickly as possible to determine whether we can provide the care they need or if referral to a specialty emergency hospital is the best option.
- Trauma: Hit by car, severe falls, major wounds, fractures, or significant bleeding
- Breathing: Difficulty breathing, choking, or respiratory distress
- Neurological: Seizures, sudden weakness, paralysis, or electric shock
- Toxins: Suspected poisoning or accidental ingestion of a harmful substance
- Critical Conditions: Kidney failure, bloat, acute abdominal swelling, inability to urinate or defecate, severe dehydration, or shock
- Advanced Needs: Some pets requiring emergency surgery, blood transfusions, or intensive care may be referred to a specialty emergency hospital after evaluation by our team.
After hours emergencies
Horse Heaven Hills is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. If your pet experiences an emergency outside of our regular hours, please contact Mid Columbia Pet Emergency at (509) 547-3577 for immediate assistance.
